Lynne Babcock

FOunder & Director

is a choral director, teacher, singer, and
pianist. After graduating from the University of
California, Los Angeles with a degree in voice, she began
her teaching career on the faculty of the South Coast
Repertory Theater Youth Conservatory in Southern
California, where, in addition to voice, she taught acting
and movement classes. Concurrently she taught private
voice and piano lessons. During this time, she also
performed extensively in regional theaters throughout the
Los Angeles area.

In 1985 Lynne transitioned into public education, teaching elementary school music for several years before moving to the high school level. As a high school educator she taught choral music, drama, and piano, first in Los Angeles and then in Northern Virginia. While teaching in Virginia, Lynne sang with the professional Schola Cantorum of St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington D.C. She also served as the collaborative pianist for multiple District and All-State Honor Choirs and adjudicated and guest-conducted for various choral events and ensembles. She has held many leadership positions throughout her career, including that of President of the Virginia Choral Directors Association. In addition to her Bachelor’s degree from UCLA she holds a Masters of Music in Voice and Conducting from the University of Nevada at Reno. Lynne is a long-standing and active member of the American Choral Directors’ Association, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and Chorus America. She recently served as the Southern Division Representative for the NAfME Council for Choral Education. Having relocated to Asheville in 2020 following her retirement from the classroom, Lynne has become actively involved in the local music community. She sang three seasons with the Asheville Choral Society and served as a collaborative pianist for the ensemble. She continues to work actively as a collaborative pianist for various youth and community choirs throughout the Asheville area. Most recently, Lynne served as the Chairperson of the annual Buncombe County High School Choral Music Performance Assessment events. She currently conducts the Blue Ridge Women’s Chorale, which she founded in November 2024, and is looking forward to nurturing and developing the continued growth of this wonderful ensemble.
